Josh Johnson does a good job of taking the beginner (like me) through how to "intensifies the contrast in an image through intensely reduced lighting."

I'm not sure if I could make me look 'cool and stylish' no matter how low key the lighting was :)

Saw Grinder at BVE earlier in the year where Sean Safreed was demonstrating it to a seminar - it looks like its value is primarily about adding timecodes (not that converting footage isn't useful, its just that other products can also do this). Still if you have a DSLR and you are editing in FCP its certainly worth a look at this price! Anyway have a read of the Red Giant inforamtion:

For the price, Boris delivers a ton of bang for the buck. While you get a ton of effects, it's really the amount of presets, ease of use, and functionality that take this whole suit...

What is the environmental cost of software?

For as long as I can remember I have always been very careful over how much paper I use, usually avoiding printing if at all possible and printing 2 pages per sheet or double side printing when I absolutely need to. I also hate the way simple objects get packaged for sale, you know, the layers of plastic and cardboard that you can't get into; and I meticulously recycle everything I can.

Apart from this, I have never seen myself as particularly gre...

RIP John Hughes

Terribly sad to see the news of the death of John Hughes, the prolific director of many films, most notably for me, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, to name but a few.

He certainly brightened my life with his films, which had that sense of humour that mostly felt real, which, considering it was the 80s is something to be said.

He was only 59...

We popped Google translate widget on the site last week. I'm told the French is passable, and the Spanish looks okay, but be very interested in knowing whether the translations into other languages is reasonable.

I'm finding reading OliverPeter's blog DigitalFilms a worthwhile pursuit. It gives me a good overview of subjects in a very informative way; clearly explaining as he goes through. He has written for a long time for Videography magazine, and it shows. His focus is Final Cut however the ideas are applicable across tools.
